Privacy
Updated October 12, 2026
Public information only
No account, address, name, date of birth or medical history is required. Do not enter personal information in waterbody search. The application does not request device geolocation or save population, species or fish-length selections to cookies, local storage or an application database.
Requests and hosting
Search text is sent to our search endpoint in the request URL. Checking an advisory sends the public water identity, species, population category, identity confirmation and any required fish length to our resolver. Our application does not log these inputs. Hosting and network providers may retain request metadata such as IP addresses, URLs and timestamps under their own policies; we cannot promise that provider logs are anonymous. These operational requests and provider logs are separate from optional analytics and can occur when analytics is off.
External links
Official agency links take you to separate websites with their own privacy practices.
Optional analytics
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is optional and available only when an approved production configuration is enabled. Analytics starts off on every full visit, including a full page reload. No Google analytics script or request is started until you choose Accept analytics for this visit. A saved acceptance does not automatically enable it on a later full visit. It remains off in development, previews, unapproved configurations, or when your browser signals Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.
After opt-in, our event payloads contain only allowlisted public page addresses and fixed page titles, a site identifier, and generic actions such as a reviewed answer being shown or an official source link being selected. These payloads do not include search text, form values, population or species selections, fish length, identity confirmation, advisory result content, personal identifiers, URL query parameters or fragments, or referrer URLs. Analytics is disabled on pages with query parameters or fragments and on pages outside the approved public list.
We do not use marketing or advertising tracking, Google Signals, advertising personalization, user IDs or user properties. Automatic page-view collection and automatic/enhanced measurement of forms, searches, scrolling, downloads or outbound links are not part of this setup; automatic/enhanced measurement must remain disabled in the approved GA4 configuration. Only the explicitly sent public-page events described above are permitted.
Your analytics choice may be saved in local storage; it contains the choice, not advisory inputs. GA4 may set first-party analytics cookies and assign a browser identifier after opt-in. Google also receives connection metadata, such as your IP address and browser information, when its script or analytics requests load. We do not promise that provider processing is anonymous.
You can decline or revoke through Analytics preferences. Revocation stops this site's optional tracking and attempts to expire accessible GA cookies; it cannot retract information already received by Google or erase hosting logs. If your browser cannot save the choice, it applies only to the current visit, and a fresh opt-in is still required after a full reload.
For advisory questions, use the official DOH advisory program. No unverified support email or contact form is offered here.
